Mechanical Engineering Technology Degree Program Overview
Purdue University Northwest’s mechanical engineering technology degree program will prepare you for technical positions in manufacturing and production industries. Students with a bachelor’s of science degree in mechanical engineering technology fill a wide variety of industrial positions in product development, manufacturing, production, supervision and plant operations.
Why Study Mechanical Engineering Technology at PNW?
- Our faculty have a wealth of real-world experience and are leaders in their respective disciplines.
- You will be mentored by experienced instructors and trained in real-life laboratories and settings, gaining a theoretical and hands-on understanding of what it takes to succeed in a career in advanced manufacturing.
Program Educational Objectives
Program Educational Objective One
The program will produce graduates that are successful in their careers in the areas associated with the design, installation, manufacturing, testing, technical sales and marketing, maintenance, quality and other endeavors related to or founded on mechanical principles.
Program Educational Objective Two
The program will produce graduates that possess the ability to advance in their careers and continue their professional development including moving into management and other strategic roles if so desired.
Program Educational Objective Three
The program will produce graduates that facilitate engineering technology activities considering the ethical impact on society and the environment.
Graduates of the Mechanical Engineering Technology program will demonstrate (Student Outcomes):
- an ability to apply knowledge, techniques, skills and modern tools of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to solve broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the analysis, applied design, development, implementation or oversight of more advanced mechanical components, systems or processes
- an ability to design systems, components, or processes meeting specified needs for broadly-defined engineering problems appropriate to the mechanical engineering technology discipline;
- an ability to apply written, oral, and graphical communication in broadly-defined technical and non-technical environments; and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature;
- an ability to conduct standard tests, measurements, and experiments and to analyze and interpret the results to improve processes;
- an ability to function effectively as a member or leader on a technical team.
Mechanical Engineering Technology Major Curriculum
