The Earth Sciences program, known as Master of Earth Science , is a cutting-edge degree that prepares individuals for advanced careers in the Earth sciences and beyond. The program carefully combines data science, programming, and computing skills with traditional field and laboratory skills, as well as a deep understanding of Earth sciences.

Students enrolled in the program are trained in a wide range of skills necessary to address crucial questions in the Earth sciences. These questions include finding ways to mitigate the effects of global change, identifying tools to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, understanding why the University of Edinburgh planet can sustain life, exploring the workings of the Earth's interior and how they impact the surface, managing Earth's resources sustainably to meet energy, mineral, and water needs, and enhancing their understanding of natural hazards like earthquakes and volcanoes to minimize risks and save lives.
