专业介绍

The BA History and Spanish combined honours degree at the University of Chester offers an engaging journey through time and culture, allowing students to explore the rich histories of Britain and Spain. Studying in the historic city of Chester—home to significant Roman, medieval, and Early Modern sites—provides an inspiring setting for delving into nearly two millennia of history.

Guided by dedicated historians specializing in Britain, Europe, America, and their global influences, students will develop a comprehensive understanding of historical developments across eras. Simultaneously, the passionate and skilled Spanish language team will nurture students’ linguistic and cultural proficiency, ensuring a well-rounded language acquisition experience.

Students can tailor their studies by choosing from a broad selection of history modules, including topics focused on Spain such as the Crusades, medieval rebellions, the Black Death, early modern witchcraft and heresy, and the First World War. Practical experience is also embedded into the course through opportunities to work with local organisations and institutions, contributing to the preservation and interpretation of history.

The coursework includes small, supportive Spanish language classes, combined with exploration of contemporary issues in the Spanish-speaking world. Students can enhance their experience with a short placement in Costa Rica or Spain during their second year, and spend their third year abroad, with options such as a British Council English Language Assistantship or continuing their history and Spanish studies at a partner university. Returning to Chester for their final year, students will acquire valuable skills in both history and Spanish tailored for the global business environment.

This course prepares students for impactful careers by equipping them with deep historical knowledge, linguistic skills, and cross-cultural understanding, enabling them to make a lasting contribution in diverse global fields.
