The Jewellery and Silversmithing – Design for Industry (Top-Up) degree is designed to prepare students for careers in the contemporary jewellery industry by developing both creative and technical design skills. This one-year programme builds on existing knowledge, combining traditional craftsmanship with the use of new technologies to support innovative design practice.

Students benefit from access to specialist facilities, expert guidance, and industry-focused teaching, enabling them to enhance their design potential and prepare for roles in both employment and entrepreneurship. The course includes live projects that allow students to apply their skills in real-world contexts, as well as opportunities to exhibit work and take part in competitions.

Throughout the programme, students create a portfolio of products while gaining experience with industry-standard CAD software and working towards the development and launch of a new product range. Visits to trade fairs, exhibitions, and companies provide valuable insight into commercial manufacturing environments and the wider jewellery sector.

Strong industry links support professional development, with graduates progressing into design and production roles both locally and internationally, as well as establishing their own businesses.
