The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Early Childhood Studies (Top-Up) (X311) at the University of Roehampton is designed to prepare students to shape positive beginnings for young children, drawing on a rich Froebelian heritage alongside pioneering ideas and contemporary research.

The programme explores childhood from birth to eight through a combination of theoretical study and practical experience, enabling students to understand children within the context of their families, communities, and wider social environments. Students examine childhood as a socially constructed and culturally situated stage of life, while being introduced to the field both as an academic discipline and as a lens for interpreting broader social issues.

Learning is informed by a wide range of disciplines, including history, education, psychology, sociology, health, policy, and leadership. A Froebelian approach underpins the course, emphasising holistic development, the importance of play, engagement with natural environments, and the value of nurturing relationships.

The programme prepares graduates for a variety of careers in early years education, family support, health, social care, and community work.
