专业介绍

The IS1 program is the equivalent of the first year of a four-year Scottish undergraduate degree. This program is designed to help students develop their academic knowledge and skills within their subject area. Participants will also focus on improving their English academic literacy in preparation for continuing onto their chosen undergraduate degree at the University of Dundee.

Students will study the IS1 across two or three terms, depending on their entry qualifications. After successful completion, they will progress directly to Year 2 of their chosen undergraduate degree at the University of Dundee.

Master of Arts (Honours) - English

In this course, students can study the history of English literature, spanning from the medieval period to the present day. They begin with a basic overview of the subject and progress toward choosing modules that align with their own interests.

A range of modules allows students to study topics ranging from Shakespeare to science fiction, Romantic poetry to contemporary poetry, and Victorian novels to Hollywood films. The program is also recognized as a world leader in comics studies, offering modules that examine the relationship between graphic novels and canonical literature.

Students start by covering fundamental topics such as how to analyze a poem and read a novel as a literary critic, followed by historical surveys of literature. They then explore many of the periods, movements, and topics covered in greater detail.

The modules offered throughout the degree reflect the diverse research specializations of the faculty, providing students with a wide array of choices.

In Levels 1 and 2, students will complement their specialist subject by studying additional Humanities or Social Sciences subjects, such as History, Philosophy, or Geography.

The program benefits from research and teaching links with local creative communities, including the Dundee Rep Theatre, Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre, The McManus, Dundee Comics Creative Space, and V&A Dundee. Additionally, there is an active drama group known as JOOT and an online review magazine called DURA, where students can gain experience in writing reviews.
