The IS1 program is the equivalent of the first year of a four-year Scottish undergraduate degree. This pathway is designed to help students develop their academic knowledge and skills within business and economics. Participants will also focus on improving their English academic literacy in preparation for continuing onto their chosen undergraduate degree at the University of Dundee. Studied across three terms, students will proceed directly to year two of their degree course at the University of Dundee upon completion of the pathway.

Business Economics with Marketing and History

Business Economics focuses on economic concepts, theories, and principles, examining how these are applied to various business activities within organizations and across the broader business landscape.

Students will develop a strong understanding of the role of marketing in today’s multi-channel environment and how marketing fits into a wider organizational context. To become effective marketers, individuals must grasp all economic factors related to target markets, particularly those concerning emerging markets.

In History, the curriculum covers social, cultural, and political history from the early modern period to the contemporary era, with a particular focus on the British Isles, Europe, the Americas, Africa, and India.

The emphasis is strongly on "doing history." Students will utilize primary sources from the outset of their studies and analyze various types of historical evidence, including written and oral materials, maps, visual images, feature films, art, and music.

They will consider how the use of sources and media informs reconstructions of the past and reflect critically on key debates in history, examining how these debates have developed over time and shaped our understanding of the world. Students will also learn how historians "make" history and evaluate their roles in today’s public life, media, and the heritage industry.
