The IS1 program is the equivalent of the first year of a four-year Scottish undergraduate degree. This pathway is designed to help students develop their academic knowledge and skills within business and economics. Participants will also focus on improving their English academic literacy in preparation for continuing onto their chosen undergraduate degree at the University of Dundee. Studied across three terms, students will proceed directly to year two of their degree course at the University of Dundee upon completion of the pathway.

Business Economics with Marketing and Geography

Students will develop a strong understanding of the role of marketing in today’s multi-channel environment and how marketing fits into a wider organizational context.

Business Economics focuses on economic concepts, theories, and principles, examining how these are applied to various business activities within organizations and across the broader business world. To become effective marketers, individuals must understand all economic factors related to target markets, particularly those concerning emerging markets.

In Geography, students study both social and physical sciences to analyze and understand the major challenges facing the world. They will develop creative skills in problem solving, presentation, and communication.

The flexible Geography degrees allow students to specialize in human geography or physical geography, or to combine elements of both. Additionally, they can study other social science or humanities subjects.

Students will also have opportunities to participate in field trips and collaborate with partner organizations to address current challenges they face.

They will cover specialisms within these themes, including:

• Health and well-being
• City futures
• Geopolitics and power
• Tourism and globalization
• Policing and security
• Hazards and risk

The program features dedicated teaching spaces, laboratories, field equipment, and specialized software like GIS (Geographic Information Systems) to support student learning.
