The Nursing (Mental Health) and Leadership degree at Derby is designed to prepare students for a rewarding career in mental health nursing, while also providing them with the leadership skills essential for career progression. This comprehensive course is approved according to the NMC’s Future Nurse: Standards of Proficiency for Registered Nurses, and upon successful completion, graduates will be eligible to apply for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) in their chosen field of practice.

Throughout the programme, students will gain valuable practical experience through placements in a range of healthcare and community settings, allowing them to apply the knowledge and skills they develop in real-world environments. These placements are supported by the university's state-of-the-art facilities, including the clinical skills suite and immersive suite, ensuring students are well-equipped for the challenges of modern nursing practice.

The course is structured as a four-year full-time programme, which is ideal for applicants who do not have a prior degree. By the end of the course, students will have achieved a Masters level award alongside NMC registration in mental health nursing. Students will complete a range of modules that focus on developing the fundamental knowledge and skills necessary for safe, effective nursing practice, ensuring that the interests of people requiring nursing care are always put first.
