The stimulating Civil Engineering with Industrial Year MEng degree programme enables students to gain strong theoretical and practical skills in civil engineering and to collaborate with academics who are global experts in their field.

This course designed to give students as many opportunities as possible to tackle problems by applying taught materials in design exercises. These interdisciplinary design projects thread through the degree programmes, increasing in complexity as the course continues. Students will work alongside Mechanical and Electrical Engineers to develop designs for technologies with impact in the world.

If students have a good grasp of maths and design and love to solve problems creatively, then this civil engineering degree will be an excellent choice for them. During this degree, students will be actively involved in developing the specific design and professional skills required by civil engineers and will tackle numerous design problems to develop their analytical, technical and decision-making abilities.

Students will benefit from the University of Birmingham's excellent links with industry to gain real-world experience during their study, and to prepare them for entering the workplace as a graduate.

Whether students have applied for the ‘with Industrial Year’ degree from the outset or decide to join the scheme once they are here, a year in industry is an invaluable addition students can choose for their degree. Students will be involved in serious projects at the core of the company’s business, with training and support. The University of Birmingham will be in touch with students throughout the year too. Students will gain experience of applying what they have learned in the early years of the degree to real engineering challenges.
