The Master of Chemistry – Chemistry with Medicinal Chemistry (MChem) (F1BC) is an integrated four-year master’s programme that combines chemistry and medicinal chemistry. Students in this programme learn how to develop new drugs to treat disease.

During the first two years, they build a strong foundation in the fundamentals of organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry. In the third year, they study core chemistry modules and explore specialist topics in medicinal chemistry and organic synthesis.

Students also choose one optional module from the following areas:

• advanced analytical techniques
• principles of electrochemistry
• simulation methods in chemistry
• sustainable chemistry

In the final year, students complete an advanced research project leading to a master’s qualification, known as an integrated master’s degree. This project may be carried out in the University’s research facilities, as part of a year-long industrial placement, or as an external placement at a university overseas. Whichever option they choose, students gain specialist experience and transferable skills to support their future careers.

Throughout the programme, students study in modern, refurbished laboratories and learn from expert academics.
