International Incorporated Bachelors (IIB) - Stage One - Continue to Master of Arts (Honours) - English and Philosophy

专业介绍

The International Stage One is equivalent to the first year of a four-year Scottish undergraduate degree. This program is designed to help students develop their academic knowledge and skills within their subject area. Students will also focus on improving their English academic literacy in preparation for continuing onto their chosen University of Dundee undergraduate degree. Studied across three terms, students will continue straight onto Year two of the degree course at the University once they have successfully completed the International Stage One.

Students can study the history of English literature from the medieval period to the present day.

Options include studying anything from Shakespeare to science fiction, Romantic poetry to contemporary poetry, creative writing to visual culture, or Victorian novels to Hollywood films.

English and Philosophy program begins by covering topics such as how to analyze a poem and how to read a novel as a literary critic, moving on to historical surveys of literature. It then delves into more detail on many of the periods, movements, and topics previously covered.

Philosophy explores existence using critical thinking and argument. The program specializes in continental (European) philosophy and teaches key texts from the European tradition.

Students will explore how philosophy is important to real-world concerns and contemporary issues by:

• exploring films and artwork
• discussing important scientific and technological developments
• debating controversial ethical issues
• examining how texts written three hundred years ago can be relevant to political situations today

At Levels 1 and 2, students will receive a grounding in ancient and modern philosophy and be introduced to fundamental ideas concerning ethics, epistemology (the nature of knowledge), and metaphysics (the nature of reality). They will then specialize in Levels 3 and 4 in areas that suit their own interests.
