The Marine Geography course explores a unique blend of physical and environmental geography, delving into the scientific understanding of the relationship between society and the sea. It delves into global challenges such as ocean acidification and the rising sea levels.

The marine environment in South Wales is known for its rich diversity, encompassing estuaries with significant tidal ranges, flourishing islands teeming with wildlife, offshore renewable energy sources, and the largest oil port in the UK located in Milford Haven. The course offers regular excursions to prominent locations like the Bristol Channel, the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, and the Gower, where students engage in activities such as offshore surveying, water quality monitoring, ecological mapping, and beach profiling. Additionally, students have the opportunity to participate in overseas trips, with previous destinations including Malta, Jersey, and Greece.

The Master's degree program extends the study duration to a fourth year, during which students undertake an engaging research project alongside a faculty member from the School and their research staff. The program focuses on studying the physical, hydrographical, and managerial aspects pertaining to the ocean, emphasizing the development of advanced research skills necessary for a career in academic research and consultancy.
