The International Stage One is equivalent to the first year of a four-year Scottish undergraduate degree. This program is designed to help students develop their academic knowledge and skills within their subject area. Students will also focus on improving their English academic literacy in preparation for continuing onto their chosen University of Dundee undergraduate degree. Studied across three terms, students will continue straight onto Year two of the degree course at the University once they have successfully completed the International Stage One.

Business Economics focuses on economic concepts, theories, and principles. Students learn how these are applied to various business activities inside businesses or organizations and across the wider business world.

A strong understanding of the role of marketing in today’s multi-channel environment and how marketing fits into a wider organizational context is developed.

In order to become an effective marketer, and be able to allocate resources and tap into growth opportunities, students need to understand all economic factors relating to target markets, particularly around emerging markets.

For History, social, cultural, and political history from the early modern through to the contemporary period are taught, focusing in particular on the British Isles, Europe, the Americas, Africa, and India.

The emphasis is very much on ‘doing history’. Students use primary sources from the very beginning of their studies, and analyze various kinds of historical evidence, including written and oral materials, maps, visual images, feature films, art, and music.

Students consider how the use of sources and the media informs reconstructions of the past. They reflect critically on key debates in history, looking at how they have developed over time, and how they have shaped understanding of the world. Students also learn how historians ‘make’ history, and evaluate their roles in today’s public life, media, and the heritage industry.
