Program Description

This course is an ideal first step towards a Biopharmaceutical career. It examines. the science behind the preparation, supply and monitoring of medicines. Student will study law, ethics, dispensing practice, the role of hospitals, community, GP practice, care home and industrial pharmacists. This course help studnet to understand drugs derived from biological sources that treat a wide range of diseases across all fields of medicine .

Working alongside other future healthcare professionals, you'll talk to patients about their conditions and treatment. Through case studies, you'll learn how chemistry, pharmacology and pharmaceutics affect clinical practice. In Year 4 you'll complete a research-based project, for which you'll receive specialist tuition.

Students will explore the sources of medicine, how medicines work, how they can be formulated (such as via tablet, cream or inhaler), administered, analyzed and tested. The course shares its first two years with the Pharmaceutical Science BSc (Hons) program and provides a wide understanding of all aspects of the pharmaceutical industry. In Year 3 students will deepen their knowledge of natural product chemistry. They'll develop skills for testing and evaluating the safety and effectiveness of pharmaceutical products. In Year 4 they'll develop skills in experiment design, critical analysis, problem-solving and laboratory work.

In addition to building expertise in students' own discipline, Kingston's courses will also help students to develop key transferable skills that they'll need for professional life or further study once they graduate. Biopharmaceutical science is a growth area with good job prospects. Graduates work in areas such as research, development, regulatory affairs and pharmaceutical analysis. They also frequently progress to study PhDs.
