专业介绍

The BSc (Hons) Computer Science at Derby provides a strong foundation in the fundamentals of computer science while enabling students to explore their interests and strengths in the field. The programme offers flexibility, including the option to transfer to another course within the Computing portfolio after the first year. It is delivered by expert academic staff recognised as leading scientists and incorporates real-world projects to enhance practical learning.

Lectures are interactive, incorporating questions, answers, and simulations, while seminars and tutorials support the application of knowledge in both familiar and unfamiliar contexts. Practical sessions develop technical skills in equipment use and the evaluation of experimental procedures and data. The third-year Individual Project module allows students to apply research and innovation tools in practical contexts. Collaborative team-based work fosters interpersonal and communication skills, essential for professional environments.

The course is closely aligned with industry needs and developed in collaboration with industrial practitioners, technologists, specialists, and professional bodies. Opportunities for placement years with organisations such as Microsoft, IBM, Intel, and BT provide valuable professional experience. Assessment is conducted entirely through coursework, portfolios, assignments, case studies, oral and graphic presentations, collaborative and interdisciplinary teamwork projects, and computer-based testing, with no written exams.
