Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Professional Policing

专业介绍

The BA (Hons) Professional Policing degree at the University of Derby offers a comprehensive education in both the theoretical and legislative aspects of policing, providing students with the knowledge needed for a successful career in law enforcement. The course is designed in close partnership with local constabularies, ensuring that students receive a relevant, practical education that aligns with the needs of the police service.

A key feature of the programme is the opportunity for students to become special constables with Derbyshire Constabulary, Nottinghamshire Police, or British Transport Police. This allows students to gain valuable, hands-on experience, putting their academic studies into practice and enhancing their employability.

The degree equips students with both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to become effective police officers. The curriculum covers a broad range of subjects, and students benefit from visits to police stations, prisons, and victim support centres, offering a close look at how the criminal justice system functions in real life.

The programme is taught by academic staff with extensive experience in policing, who are also engaged in pioneering, influential research in the field. Additionally, students have access to specialist facilities, such as the custody suite and a replica crown court, providing an immersive learning environment.

It’s important to note that while the degree prepares students for a career in policing, completion of the programme does not guarantee employment as a police officer or police staff.
