Neuroscience is the science of the brain and how it functions – both in healthy and diseased scenarios

The neuroscience degree explores behavioural neuroscience, including neurodegenerative disease. It examines the pharmacology of neuroscience, including anaesthesia and analgesia, and the drugs that control consciousness and the perception of pain. The programme provides an understanding of how biomedical innovations are explored and developed, from initial concept through to application. Students learn key theories spanning molecular-level processes to full body systems, enabling a comprehensive understanding of the field.

The first two years cover genetics, cell biology, biological organisation, and molecular mechanisms and processes. Students develop practical skills, including laboratory techniques, data analysis, and experimental design. This training prepares them to undertake independent projects later in the course. Students can choose optional modules aligned with their interests and may also transfer to a different life sciences degree by selecting the relevant modules.
