The BSc (Hons) Cyber Security provides a comprehensive pathway for students seeking to become skilled security specialists. The programme benefits from an academic partnership with the Chartered Institute of Information Security (CIISec) and provides access to industry-standard laboratories equipped with advanced software development tools such as Microsoft Azure, Matlab, Encase, Wireshark, Nmap and Kali Linux. An optional industrial placement year offers practical experience, broadens professional networks, and enhances employability prospects. The course also allows flexibility to transfer to other programmes within the Computing portfolio after the first year, and all assessment is conducted through coursework rather than written exams.

With increasing organisational reliance on IT systems, cyber security has become essential. As the frequency of security-related incidents rises, the demand for graduates with cyber security expertise continues to grow. The programme equips students with core skills including ethical hacking, vulnerability assessment, incident management, security architecture and development, information assurance methodologies, security policies, legal and regulatory requirements, and risk assessment.

Graduates develop the ability to critically analyse and evaluate responses to security-related incidents while gaining the technical expertise required to specify, design, build and maintain robust physical infrastructure, hardware and software solutions that ensure organisational systems remain secure.
