The BSc (Hons) Civil Engineering degree provides a comprehensive and future-focused education for those interested in shaping the built environment, from infrastructure and transport systems to buildings and public spaces. Students develop a strong foundation in key areas of civil engineering, including structural analysis, geotechnics, materials, and construction management. The programme takes a balanced approach, covering infrastructure, transportation, and buildings, and enabling students to explore areas such as sustainable housing, transport network design, and large-scale infrastructure projects.

Throughout the course, students apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings, making use of well-equipped laboratories and industry-standard tools such as CAD, BIM, and FEM software. The programme also addresses emerging themes in civil engineering, including digital innovation, environmental sustainability, and climate resilience, preparing students to contribute to the future of the industry.

An optional professional placement year is available between the second and third years of study, offering valuable experience within an engineering environment. Students are responsible for securing their placement, with support from the university’s careers services and employer networks. Those who successfully obtain a placement can transfer to the placement version of the course.
