专业介绍

The MSc Psychology by Research adopts an active learning approach, placing a strong emphasis on real-world application to create a practical and professionally focused course designed for international students. The programme supports interactive learning through discussions, case studies, guest lectures, and collaborative projects, fostering meaningful engagement between students and academic staff, as well as among peers.

Inclusivity is a core principle of the course, promoting integration and collaboration among students from a variety of cultural and academic backgrounds. Through collaborative exploration of psychological theories and the examination of complex challenges, students gain a deeper understanding of human behaviour across diverse cultures and contexts.

A defining feature of the programme is its strong focus on empirical research. Students have the opportunity to undertake a substantial research project, applying psychological theories to real-world issues. This not only expands their knowledge and understanding of the field but also sharpens their critical and analytical thinking skills—key competencies for a global career in psychology.

In addition to traditional lectures and seminars, students are encouraged to collaborate within small communities of practice—groups formed around shared research interests or methodological approaches. These groups support peer review and constructive feedback, helping students to develop skills in reflective listening, critical evaluation, and active engagement.

The programme actively integrates technology into the learning experience, encouraging students to maximise their engagement and develop transferable digital skills. A ‘bring your own device’ policy supports the development of digital literacy and contributes to enriched learning design and activity.

The course is further enhanced by live briefs, real-world case studies, staff-led research projects, guest speakers, and strong links to industry. These components provide direct pathways to career opportunities and offer students an applied and dynamic learning environment.
