Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Criminology and Sociology

专业介绍

The BA (Hons) Criminology and Sociology provides an in-depth exploration of the connection between crime and society, offering insight into the social factors that shape behaviour, beliefs, and attitudes.

The programme integrates criminology and sociology to examine the reasons behind criminal behaviour and the broader social influences, including inequality, prejudice, and substance abuse. It also considers the impact of crime on local communities and wider society, encouraging the application of knowledge to support positive change through engagement with initiatives such as the Social Justice Hub. Students develop research skills and apply them to real-world working situations.

The degree opens pathways to careers in national or local government, the charity and voluntary sectors, or social and health services. Emphasising real-world relevance, the programme addresses contemporary issues while fostering strong research and analytical skills to evaluate criminal behaviour and responses.

Collaborative projects with local and national community organisations provide opportunities to deliver research and practical solutions to pressing societal challenges. Study visits and field trips, including courts, prisons, police forces, and youth offender training centres, further enhance understanding of organisational practice and the criminal justice system.
