Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Creative Writing and Publishing

专业介绍

The BA (Hons) Creative Writing and Publishing programme explores the art, craft, and processes of writing fiction and non-fiction for books, magazines, and digital content. It provides a comprehensive understanding of today’s publishing industry and equips students with the skills required to bring written work—whether their own or others’—to market. The degree prepares graduates for a wide range of careers in the literary world, including writing, editorial, design, production, sales, marketing, publicity, and other publishing roles.

The programme covers every aspect of the publishing process, from idea development, writing, editing, and typesetting to design, marketing, and selling written work. It includes writing workshops and work-based projects with industry partners, allowing students to produce magazines and anthologies, create interactive eBooks, or craft industry-standard TV and film scripts. Graduates complete the course with a professionally developed portfolio suitable for presentation to potential employers.

The course highlights the significance of the UK market for written information and creative content in cultural, political, and economic contexts, while addressing the challenges of a fast-changing society where audiences are inundated with misinformation and information overload. The publishing industry continues to adapt to the evolving digital marketplace, remaining resilient, creative, and globally connected.

By examining the industry from both the perspective of the writer and the publishing professional, the programme fosters collaboration and understanding between these roles. This dual perspective ensures graduates gain insight into the practicalities of publishing, including self-publishing and working with literary agents, as well as an understanding of the creative processes, aspirations, and concerns of authors alongside the communication skills essential for any publishing career.
