The Horology degree is a specialist programme, offering a rare opportunity to study the art and science of clock and watchmaking. The course is designed to develop the practical and analytical skills required to diagnose and resolve complex mechanical faults, using both traditional techniques and advanced technologies.

Students learn within a collaborative environment alongside practising professional horologists, gaining insight into industry standards and practices. Throughout the course, they build a portfolio of repair and restoration work, demonstrating their technical competence and professional capability.

The programme also incorporates digital design and communication skills, with training in industry-standard software, including Computer-Aided Design and Manufacture (CAD/CAM). Students explore modern techniques such as rapid prototyping, enabling them to engage with contemporary approaches to design and production.

A strong emphasis is placed on transferable skills, including initiative, adaptability, and project management, supporting professional development throughout the degree.

Connections with major industry brands provide opportunities for live projects and professional experience, helping students to build networks and gain insight into career pathways within the horology sector.

An optional professional placement year is available between the second and third years of study, offering valuable industry experience. Students are responsible for securing their placement, supported by the university’s careers services and employer networks. Those who successfully obtain a placement can transfer to the placement version of the course.
