Master of Research - International Relations

专业介绍

In an increasingly interconnected and globalized world, events that unfold on other continents can quickly affect lives. While politicians sometimes collaborate in search of solutions, disagreements and the potential for conflict always seem to be looming.

The MRes in International Relations is a two-year program designed to provide additional training in research design and research methods compared to an MSc or MA. Students engage with modules on international relations and research methods throughout their two years, culminating in the development of a 35,000-word dissertation.

Srudents become familiar with the theories and conceptual tools used to analyze world politics, exploring how different theories and conceptual frameworks relate to contemporary debates and events. Additionally, they take modules on various relevant topics, including:

• Forecasting global trends
• International security
• The analysis of conflict and peace
• Research methods
• Research design
• Political theory

The MRes International Relations program offers excellent preparation for PhD research in this field, covering all aspects of international relations along with additional training in research design and methods. Students learn how to develop theories, conduct research, and explore the empirical implications of theoretical models using the most appropriate empirical methods.

The Department of Government is one of the most prestigious in Europe, boasting an outstanding record of teaching, research, and publication. It ranks 6th in the UK for research power in politics and international studies, according to the Times Higher Education research power measure in the Research Excellence Framework 2021.
