Master of Research - Political Science

专业介绍

How do political scientists explain political outcomes? How can political science be used to analyse the real world? The University of Essex MRes gives students additional rigorous training in research design and methods compared to an MSc or MA, preparing them for PhD research in any sub-field of political science.

Students learn to formulate questions relevant to political science, develop theories, conduct research, analyze data, and explore the empirical implications of theoretical models and methods. They acquire the skills necessary to draw their own conclusions regarding which approaches are suitable for the questions they wish to investigate, gaining a thorough and rigorous understanding of essential research tools.

Throughout the two-year program, students study modules focused on theories of political explanation, research design, and empirical and mixed research methods, culminating in the development of a 35,000-word dissertation.

The Department of Government is recognized as one of the most prestigious in Europe, boasting an excellent record in teaching, research, and publication. It has been rated top in the UK for research (REF 2014) and has consistently held the highest rating among politics departments in the country since national assessments began.
