Master of Arts – The Politics of Cultural Conflict (by Research) examines the contemporary “culture wars” between the populist right and the cultural left, analysing how these dynamics are shifting the axis of political competition from economics to culture, particularly within Western societies. The seminar programme explores the ideological foundations and social expressions of both the populist right and the cultural left, with particular attention to the polarization between them. Key themes include the secular–religious divide, globalist–nationalist tensions, and the evolving debates commonly framed as woke versus anti‑woke politics. These themes are treated as discrete yet overlapping phases of cultural conflict in the modern era. Students are supported in selecting their own research topics, which they pursue under expert one‑to‑one supervision. In addition to developing their individual research projects, they participate in regular seminars featuring leading writers and scholars in the field of cultural politics, including figures such as Matthew Goodwin, Yascha Mounk, Pippa Norris, and David Goodhart.
