专业介绍

The MSc Criminal Investigation is designed to advance investigative careers across law enforcement, finance, health and safety, social services, and other sectors. The programme equips students with the skills required to conduct serious and complex investigations from inception to conclusion, reflecting the Professionalising Investigation Programme (PIP) occupational standards. Students can select two specialist options, such as financial and digital investigation, intelligence, and sexual offences, or follow a specialist pathway in investigating domestic abuse or child sexual exploitation offences.

The course is delivered by an influential team of researchers and practitioners with over a century of combined professional experience in investigation. It is designed to appeal to graduates from traditional academic backgrounds as well as serving investigation professionals, combining academic rigour with practical experience to nurture high-calibre, confident, and forward-thinking investigative practitioners. By enhancing professionalism in investigative procedures, the programme supports organisations in meeting public expectations for effective and efficient policing and justice.

Students develop comprehensive investigative skills, including gathering initial information from diverse sources, managing intelligence, and preparing high-quality evidence for prosecution. A strong emphasis is placed on interviewing witnesses, victims, and suspects using appropriate techniques. Professional practice is underpinned by ethical and critical perspectives, ensuring alignment with masters-level academic standards and UK higher education accreditation requirements.
