专业介绍
The LLM in International Law and Human Rights at Bangor University enables students to develop advanced knowledge of international law and examine how it affects individuals, justice, and the protection of humanity.
The programme focuses on International Criminal Law and International Human Rights Law, giving students an in-depth understanding of the legal frameworks that shape international justice and protect fundamental rights. Students build a strong foundation in legal knowledge through small-group teaching, individual guidance, and a supportive learning environment.
The programme prepares graduates to address the complex intellectual and professional challenges associated with legal issues affecting individuals in a global context. Through structured coursework and varied teaching methods, students develop critical-thinking abilities, technical legal expertise, and the open-minded perspective needed to work effectively in an increasingly globalised society.
Teaching is delivered by academics whose research informs policy and contributes to international legal developments. Students benefit from learning that is connected to current global issues and real-world applications. The programme can support careers in advocacy, policy, research, legal practice, journalism, campaigning, and work with non-governmental organisations, governments, and international bodies such as the United Nations.
Students explore the development of modern International Criminal Law and gain a comprehensive understanding of International Human Rights Law. They examine rights protected under international law and investigate the strategies and procedures used to safeguard those rights.
The programme places a strong emphasis on legal research, including the development of high-quality dissertations and research papers. Students learn to construct clear, well-reasoned arguments supported by reliable evidence and develop the confidence to communicate complex ideas with clarity and impact. They are encouraged to think critically, reflect carefully, and adopt a broad global perspective.
The dissertation provides an opportunity for students to undertake independent research and contribute original thinking to a real-world legal challenge. In addition to the core modules, students can tailor their studies by selecting specialist options aligned with their interests and career objectives.
Compulsory modules include Legal Research Methods, International Criminal Law, International Human Rights Law, and a 60-credit dissertation requiring independent research.
Students also complete 60 credits from optional modules, which may include Global Crime and Justice, Business and Human Rights Law, Global Trade Law, International Climate Change Law and Policy, and Public International Law. Module availability and content may be subject to change.
