Program Description

If you hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, but don’t meet the entry requirements for a master’s, a Pre-Master’s can help you gain a place on a postgraduate degree. For progression to the 1st year of a postgraduate degree at the University of York. Your course length is determined mainly by your English language level (UKVI IELTS score).

Students on all course lengths take a set of common or similar modules to gain a solid base of skills for university. If your course is longer than 2 terms, you’ll take additional modules designed to improve one or more of your English language level, academic skills, and basic knowledge of particular subjects.

Master of Science - Development Economics and Emerging Markets

Students build the skills crucial to their interests and career ambitions in development economics.

They'll join a vibrant programme which provides a structured transition to independent research.

Taught by leading researchers in the field, students will gain a sound training in best practice methods of theory and applications in development economics with special emphasis on emerging market economies. They'll also have the opportunity to follow specialist pathways in topics including finance and health.
