The International Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management MSc at Middlesex University prepares students for careers in one of the world’s fastest-growing sectors. Events management is a particularly dynamic and innovative area, with the UK events industry alone valued at £42 billion and inbound business travel accounting for 23.5% of all visits to Britain. In response to the recognised shortage of skilled professionals, particularly at management level, the programme develops the knowledge and practical skills required to succeed in this competitive global industry.

The industry-focused curriculum combines specialist knowledge with a strong understanding of tourism within the global economy. Teaching is delivered by academic staff with recent industry experience, ensuring that course content reflects current professional practices and sector developments.

Students gain direct industry exposure through practicum and enterprise modules, applying theoretical knowledge in real-world contexts. Contemporary and flexible modules explore current theories, methods and industry trends, with optional areas of study including digital marketing, tourism and development, and entrepreneurship in tourism.

The programme has a strong employability focus, developing communication, independent thinking, problem-solving and innovation skills for management-level roles. Accreditation by the Tourism Management Institute (TMI) provides access to networking opportunities, professional connections and industry-based projects.

Research and field engagement form an important part of the programme. Students participate in a week-long physical or virtual field trip and complete an original research dissertation to deepen their knowledge and expertise within the sector.

Graduates are prepared to pursue specialist careers in destination management, place marketing, event management and global tourism operations, with opportunities available in the UK and internationally.

A 12-month professional placement is available exclusively to students enrolled in the International Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management with Professional Experience programme (011N849). The placement allows students to apply their learning in an industry setting and gain valuable experience in hospitality, tourism or events management.

Placement opportunities may be available with hotels, destination marketing organisations, event agencies or travel companies. Through this experience, students can develop practical skills in operations, customer experience, project coordination and strategic planning.
