Management and organisations are focal points of research within the fields of human resource management and organisational studies. Students will explore qualitative and quantitative research methods specifically designed to investigate these fields.

The MRes in Management and Organisation is tailored for individuals aspiring to pursue a career in research and/or academia. This degree places a strong emphasis on research, although it also includes some taught elements that enhance knowledge of the research landscape. An MRes serves as an ideal initial step for those intending to advance to doctoral studies, such as a PhD.

Participants will deepen their understanding of management and organisations, gaining a broader perspective on the evolving role and contemporary perception of management.

MRes Management and Organisation explores research and management issues, such as:

• research skills, including both quantitative and qualitative approaches
• theoretical stances underpinning different approaches to research
• how to design a research proposal, including construction of research questions and/or hypotheses
• management of a research project
• management theory
• reflection on organisational behaviour and human resource management

The program equips students with the skills and knowledge to appreciate the depth and breadth of management and organizational theories and techniques, enabling them to apply these concepts within a social science context. Students benefit from cutting-edge social science research conducted by the Organisation Studies and Human Resource Management Group, which specializes in understanding organizations and organizational development through the lens of their people.
