专业介绍
The full-time MA in International Relations, Conflict and Security examines some of the major threats facing individuals, organisations and societies in the 21st century. These include global pandemics, climate change, cyber-attacks, the rise of the far right, international terrorism and the erosion of democratic systems.
The programme introduces students to the key concepts and theories required to understand contemporary international relations, conflict and security issues. It provides a framework for exploring how governments, organisations and societies can respond to complex and evolving global challenges.
Students examine these issues through the perspectives of politics, law and ethics. The course encourages them to distinguish between what can be done and what ought to be done, supporting the development of critical approaches to policy, security and international decision-making.
Particular attention is given to the relationship between international and national interests. Students develop an understanding of conflict and security as policy challenges and examine the growing interdependence between states, international organisations and non-state actors involved in governing international relations.
The programme also explores how security, development and humanitarian organisations respond and adapt to instability. Students have the opportunity to analyse regionally diverse responses to international conflict across different countries and nations.
The master’s programme is open to students from a wide range of undergraduate disciplines. It prepares graduates for careers in international relations and develops knowledge and transferable skills relevant to roles in international organisations, government, the media and academia.
