音乐学士 - 音乐治疗

专业介绍

The undergraduate music therapy program at Western Michigan University stresses clinical application of music therapy procedures through structured observation and practicum experiences beginning during the freshman year.

During the freshman and sophomore years, the student has an opportunity to visit various health and special education centers and to observe and participate in programs planned by professional staff and upperclassmen.

During the junior and senior years, each student is given additional responsibility in establishing and enacting treatment programs based on their academic preparation.

Under the direction of three music therapists on the faculty, students in the program are provided the opportunity to apply what they have learned in their coursework in eight different clinical affiliations involving individuals or groups of clients with varying levels of abilities and disabilities. In addition to our on-site Music Therapy Clinic, students gain this valuable clinical experience through practicum assignments selected from more than 30 medical and educational facilities within the greater Kalamazoo community. The extensive number of on- and off-campus settings provide the student with the opportunity to pursue many different areas of clinical specialization.

In addition, WMU's music therapy program is one of only a select group of universities that incorporate principles of Neurologic Music Therapy in the student's academic and clinical work.

Perhaps most importantly, our graduates enjoy a very high success rate in securing professional employment and also typically score above the national average on the Certification Board for Music Therapists exam upon completion of degree requirements.
